Upcomin Gallery Show

March 4th Friday 2024- SOLO SHOW- Mark Dennis, Local Sculptor

Join us on the evening of Friday, March 22nd from 6-9PM as we welcome local sculptor Mark A. Dennis for this month's gallery show. Mark will be giving an artist talk about his creative process at 7PM. Please grab a drink from CKW downstairs and come join us!

MARK A. DENNIS

A Native of York County, now residing in Lancaster County, Mark has a Technical Theatre BA
from Mansfield State College. He has worked for years as a sculptor in various medium
including stone, bronze, wood, and polymer clay which is the medium used in his book, the
Human Figure in Clay. In addition, he continues to work in stage design, landscape design,
and putter about in the wood shop or where ever his clients ask him to work.

ARTIST STATEMENT

"Creating an effective sculpture is a combination of many elements. My passion is the study
of classical art, anatomy, and movement in space; developing the use of tools and
materials, and practicing the process of sculpting which enables me to better convey my
ideas. By combining these various tools of the trade, I hope to convey the essence of a
person; to capture through the face and pose the uniqueness of each individual. Only
through developing one’s skills through the use of these materials can a craftsman hope to
enter the realm of artist.

The wonderful thing about the art field which has chosen me is that it is diverse in its
purpose. I strive to tell a story with each piece. Some pieces are purely for the beauty of
the subject, some are retelling of social history, some tell of my own metamorphosis, while
some are just interesting images or ideas put into form."

Open Figure Drawing

The Switchboard will be the new home to Open Figure Drawing here in Columbia on the second and 4th Thursdays of every month from 6-9PM starting February 9th.

Darren Jordan will be organizing and hosting these sessions so please direct all inquiries his way!

Artists are encouraged to bring their own art supplies and easels. Beer from the brewery downstairs always welcome.

$10 Cover

Elevator access through brewery.

For the off weeks that we don't have sessions in studio, (1st and 3rd Thursdays) artists are welcome to join Miss A at Hell in a Bucket Brewery in Wrightsville. Starting at 7PM, Bjorn Jacobsen hosts Open Mic with a very talented crew of local musicians that make for great models and quick figural sketches. The movement, speed, and music keep your brain from getting too caught up in little things.

Music and Art are developed in the same portion of the brain, it's always great to find ways to mesh the two. Get in the zone with other creatives!

See y'all very soon!
